CMSC 2024 Announcement
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
We hope this message finds you in good health and spirits. We are very pleased to inform you that CMSC will be organizing two events in 2024, and we would like to invite you to these exciting programs. Please find the registration link below.
We will kick off this year’s CMSC events with a virtual junior faculty consortium, co-organized by Hui Sun at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management (huisunsh16@gmail.com) and Ying Li at HKUST (ying.li@ust.hk). The consortium consists of two parts that take place on two consecutive days: the Junior Faculty Paper Development Workshop (PDW) on July 24 from 10-11:30 am EST, and the Junior Faculty Forum on July 25 from 10-11:30 am EST. Our mentors in the PDW – Danqing Wang (HKUST), PK Toh (UT Austin), Nan Jia (USC), Chengwei Liu (Imperial College), and Liang Chen (Singapore Management U) – are experts across multiple research areas, and we welcome participants from various broad strategy areas. The Junior Faculty Forum will feature a group of scholars sharing their best practices for research productivity. Topics include project planning, managing coauthor teams and research assistants, working with PhD students, and more. The panelists include Liang Chen (Singapore Management U), Waverly Ding (U Maryland), Chengwei Liu (Imperial College), and Eric Zhao (Oxford).
Second, Xiumei Liu (Xiumei.Li@umanitoba.ca) from U of Manitoba and Qiang Li (qiangli@ceibs.edu) from CEIBS will organize this year’s In-person Reunion at the annual AOM meeting. It will be held between 7:30 pm and 10:00 pm (Central Time) on Saturday, August 10th, at the 2024 AOM conference in Chicago. The reunion event consists of two parts: a panel discussion and roundtable discussion. We attach the detailed reunion schedule at the end of this announcement. The time and venue are to be confirmed with AOM and will be announced in future emails.
Members of this year’s CMSC management committee include Songcui Hu (U of Arizona), Jiao Luo (U of Minnesota), and Feng Zhu (Harvard U). Please contact this year’s overall coordinator, Songcui Hu (songcuih@arizona.edu), if you have any questions about this year’s CMSC activities.

The Chinese Management Scholars Community (CMSC) is an informal, open-platform community that offers career-related services to Chinese (or Chinese-speaking) management scholars. Our community represents a grass-roots, voluntary effort initiated by individuals who are bonded by common interests and values. We are guided by our mission, to pass the baton (傳承), and our core values derive from the “middle” or “zhong” (中) philosophy: integrity, harmony, balance, integration, dynamics, and independence. Founded in 2006 by Ming-Jer Chen (http://www.darden.virginia.edu/faculty-research/directory/ming-jer-chen/) as a small “workshop” for Chinese scholars in strategic management dedicated to the development of well-balanced business academics, the group is now composed of more than 500 members. Our current focus is on serving scholars in the management area, and we offer the following member-centered programs: 1) CMSC-Workshop (e.g., for PhD students and junior faculty); 2) CMSC-Reunion; 3) CMSC-RF (Research Forum); 4) CMSC-TF (Teaching Forum); and 5) CMSC-Camp (Mentors’ Camp).
Best wishes,
The 2024 CMSC Management Team
2024 Chinese Management Scholars’ Community (CMSC) Reunion
Organizers: Xiumei Li (University of Manitoba) & Qiang Li (CEIBS)
CMSC (Chinese Management Scholars’ Community) was founded by Professor Ming-Jer Chen in 2006 as a small “workshop” for Chinese scholars in strategic management. The group has grown and become an informal, open-platform community that offers career-related services to over a thousand Chinese (or Chinese-speaking) management scholars. The Reunion is a major event organized by CMSC during each Academy of Management Meeting. This year’s reunion will be held between 7:30 pm and 10:00 pm (Central Time) on Saturday, August 10th, at the 2024 AOM conference in Chicago. There are two parts to the reunion event.
First Session: Panel discussion on “Navigating the Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Research in Management, Teaching, and Life” (7:30 pm – 9:00pm)
The first session of the reunion will start at 7:30 pm with a panel discussion. This year’s theme is “Navigating the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on research in management, teaching, and life.” This conference panel aims to explore the multifaceted impact of AI on management research, teaching, and life, providing a platform for experts to share insights, discuss challenges, and envision the future landscape of these interconnected domains.
A group of distinguished scholars who have made significant achievements and contributed to CMSC, will share with the audiences their insights on:
- Research: How has AI influenced research methodologies and practices in the field of management? What projects or studies have you been involved in that shed light on the implications of AI in these domains? Could you share your experiences using AI tools in research?
- Teaching: What role does AI play in transforming teaching methodologies and educational experiences? Could you share specific examples of AI applications in enhancing learning outcomes in management education?
- AI and life: How does /will AI impact our daily life? What are some of the most promising areas for applying these technologies?
- What overarching challenges and opportunities do you foresee in the integration of AI across research, teaching, and life?
Confirmed panelists include:

Second Session: Round Table Discussion (9:00pm – 10:00pm)
