Founding President, Special Advisor & Co-Treasurer of IACMR – Anne S. Tsui
ANNE S. TSUI, Founding President of IACMR, currently Special Advisor and Co-treasurer of the Association, is Distinguished Adjunct Professor at the University of Notre Dame since fall 2014, Motorola Professor Emerita of International Management at Arizona State University, and concurrently Visiting Distinguished Professor at Peking University and Fudan University, China. Previously, she was faculty at Duke University, U California, Irvine, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She is the 67th President and Fellow of the Academy of Management (AOM), 14th Editor the Academy of Management Journal, Founding President of the International Association for Chinese Management Research (IACMR) and Founding Editor-in-Chief of Management and Organization Review. She is also an elected fellow of the Academy of International Business. She won best paper awards from AMJ, ASQ, and JOM, received the Center for Creative Leadership Applied Leadership Research Award, the University of Minnesota Outstanding (Alumnus) Achievement Award, the AOM Distinguished Service Contribution Award, and the IACMR Lifetime Contribution Award. In recent years, she has devoted her professional work to advancing both the quality and the relevance of international and Chinese management research. She is the co-founder of the Responsible Research in Business and Management network (www.RRBM.network). Dr. Tsui received her BA in Psychology from the University of Minnesota, Duluth; MA in Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis; PhD in Management from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an Honorary Doctorate in Economics from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
Past President – Chao Chen
Chao C. Chen (Ph.D., the State University of New York at Buffalo) is Professor of Management and Global Business at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He had his undergraduate education in English language and literature in the People’s Republic of China. He was a British Council Scholar studying economics, industrial history, and comparative goverment in the Universities of Manchester and Warwick in England for two years. He received his Master in linguistics and Ph.D. in organization behavior and HR management from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He served as the department chair of Management and Global Business at Rutgers. He was a visiting associate professor at Stern Business School at NYU for two years, and is affliated with the International Ph.D. Program at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. His research interests include rewards and compensation, organizational justice, leadership, networking, and cross-cultural management. He has published in leading management journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Organization Science. He has recently coedited a book to be published by Cambridge University Press on Leadership and Management in China: Philosophies, Theories, and Practices. He currently serves on the editorial boards of Journal of International Business Studies, Asia Pacific Management Journal, and IACMR’s journal of Management and Organization Review. He has taught at undergraduate, MBA, EMBA, and Ph.D. levels courses including organizational behavior, managing diversity, cross-cultural management, negotiation, and organization and culture.
President – Jiing-Lih (Larry) Farh
Jiing-Lih (Larry) Farh (Ph.D., Indiana U. at Bloomington, USA) is a Chair Professor of Management at the School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Previously, he has also served as Head (2000-2003) and Associate Head (1993-1999) of the department. Before returning to Hong Kong, he was a tenured associate professor at Louisiana State University (1984-1993). He received a B.S. in Psychology from National Taiwan University and a MBA from National Chengchi University of Taiwan. He currently serves as a Senior Editor for Management and Organization Review, and has served on the review board of many journals including Academy of Management Journal, Human Relations, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Personnel Psychology, and Leadership Quarterly. He has published over 40 articles in international journals of management such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes. His current research interests are primarily focused on the study of organizational behavior in the Chinese context, such as individual cultural values of power distance and traditionality, work attitudes, guanxi, leadership, and organizational citizenship behavior.
President-Elect – Neng Liang
Dr. Neng Liang is Professor Emeritus (hired back) of China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). Previously he was a professor of management at Peking University and a tenured professor at Loyola University in Maryland, USA. He was a standing committee member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Shanghai Pudong District; a vice president of Chinese Economist Society, and the President of IACMR. He currently serves as the education committee chair of IACMR and an academic advisor to the Center for China and Globalization. Neng Liang was one of the pioneers of Chinese MBA education. He returned to China in 1997, co-founded the first joint MBA program in Beijing, and served as its first Chinese dean. In CEIBS, he served as the Director of the EMBA Programme, Associate Dean of Faculty, and the Director of case center; received teaching excellence award twice and a service excellence award. Liang’s research focuses on the behaviors of the upper echelon. His research won two Enbar research excellence awards in Europe, two “All Academy Best Paper” awards and two “Divisional Best Paper” awards in the Academy of Management. His edited book on corporate governance won a “National High Quality Best Seller” award in China. His research book on Chinese entrepreneurs (together with three Wharton professors) has been published in three languages. Liang spent six years as a farm laborer during the cultural revolution. He was admitted into graduate program in Renmin University as a self-taught student. He received his MBA from The Wharton School, and his Ph.D. from Indiana University (Bloomington).
Vice President and Program Chair – Raymond A. Friedman
Raymond A. Friedman is the Brownlee O. Currey Professor of Management at the Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University. He received his Ph.D. from University of Chicago (1987) and his B.A. from Yale University (1980). Prior to Owen, he was an assistant professor at Harvard Business School and was a faculty member of Harvard’s Program on Negotiation. Professor Friedman’s research interests include negotiation, dispute resolution, the management of diversity, and cross-cultural differences between Chinese and American managers. In the early part of his career, Professor Friedman focused on labor negotiations, with a special focus on the role that team dynamics affect negotiation strategies, and efforts to change labor negotiation through training in mutual gains bargaining. Professor Friedman then shifted his attention to race and gender in organizations, looking at how race affects perceptions of justice, and the structure and dynamics of minority employee network. More recently, he has studied Chinese-American differences in approach to dispute resolution (including negotiation, arbitration, and conflict management) as well as the effects of Guanxi, behavioral integrity, and particularism in Asian culture. His work has been published in ASQ, AMJ, JAP, OBHDP, Human Relations, Industrial Relations, HBR, JESP, MOR, JPSP, JIBS, and other journals. Professor Friedman has served as Chair of the Conflict Management Division of the Academy of Management, and as president of the International Association for Conflict Management. He organized and ran IACM’s 2006 conference in Montreal, Canada. At Vanderbilt, he has been the area coordinator for Organization Studies since 1995, and served as Associate Dean for Faculty from 2010 to 2013. Professor Friedman has taught Organizational Behavior, Negotiation, Labor and Employee Relations, Doing Business in China, and Leading Teams and Organizations, and has received the Deans Award for Teaching Excellence at Owen. For six years he led a yearly project trip to China for MBA students.
Executive Secretary/Treasurer – Xiaomeng Zhang
Dr. Xiaomeng Zhang is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business. Prior to joining CKGSB, Dr. Zhang was a tenured associate professor at the Kogod School of Business at American University in Washington D.C., USA. Her research interests are in the areas of creativity, leadership and motivation, with a desire to understand the relationships between all those areas. Professor Zhang has published articles in multiple top academic journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies and Human Resource Management Review, etc. Professor Zhang has taught Principles of Management, Organizational Behavior, Management of Organization and Human Capital, Business Policies, International Business Practices in China, and H.R. Management. She earned a B.A. with emphasis in Economics and Business Administration from Zhongshan University, China and a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management from the R.H. Smith School of Business at University of Maryland, College Park with a Paine Award for outstanding academic achievement and several teaching awards.

Tony Fang (PhD 1999, Industrial Marketing, Linköping University) is Professor of Business Administration at Stockholm Business School. He earlier worked as Assistant Professor and Director of International Graduate Program (IGP) in the Institute of International Business (IIB), Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). Tony Fang has also been Visiting Scholar in the Political Science Department, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, host professor Lucian W. Pye). Tony Fang conducts research in cross-cultural management and Chinese business studies. One current project is called “Yin Yang: A New Perspective on Culture” (http://fek.su.se/yinyang). Xu Huang received his PhD from the University of Groningen (the Netherlands), MA from Lancaster University (UK), and Honors Diploma from Lingnan University (Hong Kong). He had worked as a trainer for several companies in Hong Kong before he went to the Netherlands to do PhD studies. Currently, he is a Professor of Management at the Department of Management and Marketing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Since 2010, he has served as an Adjunct Professor in the Centre for Work, Organization and Wellbeing, Griffith University. He has also been appointed as a Visiting Professor in Shanghai University of Finance and Economics since 2012. Prof. Huang’s research interests include empowerment, leadership, employees’ well-being and emotions, cross-cultural organizational psychology, and management issues in China. Representatives-at-Large, Americas – Zhen Zhang
Zhen Zhang is an associate professor of management and the Dean’s Council of Distinguished Scholar in the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Dr. Zhang obtained his Ph.D. in Human Resources and Industrial Relations in 2008 from the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on leadership process and leadership development, work teams and groups, biological basis of work behavior, the intersection between organizational behavior and entrepreneurship, and advanced research methods. Dr. Zhang’s work has appeared in several leading management journals including Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes. He also published research methods-oriented papers in Psychological Methods and Organizational Research Methods, and he received the 2013 Early Career Achievement Award from the Research Methods Division of the Academy of Management. One of his papers was the winner of the 2013 Wiley Award for Excellence in Survey Research of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Dr. Zhang is currently on the editorial review boards of Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Organizational Research Methods, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and the Leadership Quarterly.

Professor Xiaobo WU is Qiushi Chair Professor of Strategy and Innovation Management, Dean of School of Management, Director of National Institute for Innovation Management, and Director of Global Zhejiang Entrepreneur Research Center at Zhejiang University. He is also the director of the Zhejiang University—Cambridge University Joint Research Center for Global Manufacturing and Innovation Management. And He used to serve as the Senior Vice President of International Council for Small Business. He got his BSc of EE in 1982, MSc of Mgt in 1989 and PhD of Mgt in 1992 from Zhejiang University. From 1982 to 1986, he worked for government agencies and industrial organizations as an assistant engineer. He did his post-doctorial program at Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand in 1996. Sponsored by British Council, he worked as a visiting scholar at the Institute for Manufacturing and Judge Institute of Management Studies, Cambridge University in 1996-1997; and as a State sponsored Fulbright Visiting Scholar, he was with Sloan School of Management at MIT in 2000 -2001. He joined the School of Management, Zhejiang University in 1992. His current research interests include Managing Technological Innovation, Inclusive Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Global Manufacturing and Network-based Competitive Strategy. He has published over one hundred academic papers and seven books in the related research areas. He is at editorial boards of academic journals like IEEE TEM, AJTI etc. He also serves as a board member and strategic advisor of some world known companies such as Siemens, Geely, Hikvision etc. He serves as the board member of China Scholarship Council under the State Council, Chinese National MBA Education Supervisory Committee, the Steering Committee for Management Science and Engineering Management of Ministry of Education, China, and the founding member of Institute for Manufacturing, Cambridge University, UK.
