2017 IACMR Research Methods Workshop was successfully held in Wuhan from July 9 to 13. The School of Management of Huazhong University of Science and Technology co-organized this workshop.

The IACMR Research Methods Workshop is designed to meet the need for high quality research-based management knowledge in the Chinese contexts with two key considerations: local talent and scientific method. The first 4 workshops (1999-2002) were held at HKUST and lACMR has continued to organize workshops biennially since 2005 with different universities as hosting schools. This year, there were 120 participants from 56 Universities/Affiliations of the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Thailand, Portugal, the US and Australia participating in the workshop. 16 of them were young faculty members and 104 were students. All participants were divided into 14 discussion groups and each group was led by one faculty advisor in discussions.

The School of Management of Huazhong University of Science and Technology attached great importance to the workshop. Prof. Zongjun Wang, Dean of the School, joined the faculty and students at the welcome dinner and made the welcome speech on July 9. Prof. Jianqiao Liao (former associate dean), Prof. Lirong Long and Prof. Zhi Yang (both associate deans), attended most of the lectures as well as the welcome dinner and graduation dinner. They offered great support to the faculty advisors and the participants. Prof. We He, main coordinator of the workshop, spent days and nights on every detail to ensure the success of the workshop.  All logistics arrangements were perfectly made.

The workshop faculty gave 16 lectures on key research topics such as measurement, qualitative research, survey research, etc. Participants also had chances to discuss their research proposals in small group sessions led by faculty advisors.

IACMR and the School of Management of HUST organized a dinner on the evening of the last day to celebrate graduation of all participants. Prof. Larry Farh and faculty advisors presented graduation certificates to the participants. Each group offered splendid and interesting performance which demonstrated their reflections on doing research after attending the workshop, their gratefulness to the faculty advisors and their joyfulness in getting acquaintance with fellow students as well as their mentors who will be good friends along their careers.

The workshop was well received and all the participants gave very high marks in their evaluation forms and extended their thanks to IACMR and faculty advisors. Their feedbacks and reflections will help future workshop applicants know better about the workshop, the faculty advisors as well as doing research itself.  (More detailed report in Chinese is available here.)
