Abstract

Historically, shareholders were passive observers, attempting to predict stock price movements. This dynamic has dramatically shifted. Today, shareholders are pivotal players in corporate governance, exerting significant influence over a wide range of strategic decisions. Early research in this arena categorized shareholder types and examined their impact on various firm-level outcomes. To advance our understanding, future research on corporate ownership must explore novel and nuanced ownership structures. I will discuss several emerging research areas that I believe will shape the future of this field.
