1. IACMR 2017- 2020 New Officers/Governor Election Updates
According to the Constitution and Bylaws of IACMR, a biennial election has been held in 2017 to elect positions of five officers (Vice President and 4 Representatives-at-Large) and two non-voting Ph.D. student representatives of the IACMR Board of Governor for the period of July 2017 – June 2020.
By the nomination deadline of March 31, about 30 nominations of candidates had been received. After thorough discussions, the Nomination and Election Committee determined the candidates for the ballot and the online voting was kicked off in late April. In total 374 active fee-paying members had casted their votes by the voting deadline of May 25. The voting results of the 2017 election are as follows.

2. IACMR Research Committee (2017- 2018)
The Research Committee is to promote and facilitate scholarship among members doing Chinese management research, advance research opportunities for members, promote research ethics, and screen and select nonconference award winners. Their specific tasks include evaluating proposals for small research grants or candidates for research/paper awards, mainly the Kwok Leung Memorial Dissertation Fund Grant and IACMR/Emerald China Doctoral-Research Publication Awards at the current stage.

3. Event 2: IACMR/MOR & Wuhan University Joint Reception
Time: 19:00 – 20:30, Sunday, August 6th, 2017
Venue: Marquis Salon D Room of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Atlanta, Georgia
This year, IACMR, MOR and Wuhan University will host a joint reception at the Academy of Management Meeting, which will offer IACMR members an opportunity to learn about the association, the programs it offers, and Wuhan University (the hosting school of 2018 biennial IACMR Conference), and to meet others who are also interested in management research in the cross cultural context—especially that of China. Delicious Chinese food and drinks will be provided.
4. IACMR new website construction and conference system development
The Executive Committee decided in October 2016 to revamp the IACMR website and conference system. Zhiweb and E-Tiller were finally chosen as the service suppliers to revamp the website and develop the conference system respectively, and the contracts were signed in early January this year. The IACMR Office made great efforts in the past months in supervising and communicating with the suppliers as well as moving all the data from the crashed old website. The new website and the conference system are under testing and debugging at the moment and are expected to be launched in July though it will take some more time to transfer conference-related data from the old server to the new server and fix a few minor issues. A mass email will be sent to the IACMR membership in 2-3 weeks about the launching of the new website and the user name and password to login in the membership center in the new website.
5. “China Management Research Frontiers Conference“, co-organized by IACMR and Lancaster University Management School/Lancaster China Management Centre, will be held July 27-28, 2017. The call for submissions was released on April 11, 2017 and invitations were issued in June. The core theme of the conference explores some key questions on China management broadly around the internet and innovation, which are yet answered. 6. IACMR and Department of Organization and Human Resource, School of Business, Renmin University of Chinaco-organized a lecture with the theme of “Employees’ perception, understanding and attribution of HRM: The influence of national culture” in RUC on May 24. The lecture was delivered by Prof.Karin Sanders, School of Management, UNSW Business School, Sydney, Australia. Prof. Sanders explained the HR Process approach, and presented some results from experimental and field studies, she had conducted with colleagues. She also presented a study she had conducted with co-authors on the influence of national culture in the HR process (the paper was nominated for the Carolyn Dexter Award, Academy of Management, 2015).
7. IACMR and School of Management, Lanzhou University co-organized lectures on Event system theory: An event-oriented approach to the organizational sciences on June 28, in Lanzhou University. The lectures will gave by Prof. Dong Liu from Georgia Institute of Technology.
8. Prof. Arie Y. Lewin, the Editor in Chief of Management and Organization Review, gave a lecture on “Contrasting Leadership of Zhang Ruimin and Ren Zhengfei as They Face Selection of Their Successors” on May 5, 2017 in Peking University. It was a joint seminar by Guanghua School of Management, Peking University and IACMR.
● 2017 Workshop Updates
1. The 2017 workshop participants finished online registration through the workshop system by May 15, 2017. 120 admitted applicants confirmed their attendance.
2. The workshop grouping list has been posted in the workshop system. All participants have been notified by emails.
3. The workshop arrival guidance and hotel information is available in the workshop system.
4. The workshop reading materials have been posted and updated at the workshop website and the admitted participants have been notified to read the materials before the workshop.
5. The Wechat group for the 2017 workshop participants was created early June for convenience of communications.
6. The IACMR staff are working closely with the HUST team to prepare every piece of preparation work to ensure success of the workshop.
● 2018 Conference Updates
In recognition of IACMR’s mission, we confer awards for excellence in Chinese management research every two years. The Call for Nominations for the 2018 IACMR Distinguished Scholarly Contribution Award was announced to all members and released at IACMR Wechat (iacmr2002) on June 2nd. By the nomination deadline of June 20, 5 nominations had been received. The DSC Award Committee will have meetings to discuss about each candidate’s academic achievements as well as their contributions to the development of Chinese management research and make the final decision in August. The award will be conferred at the 2018 IACMR Conference in Wuhan, China.

● 2017 Kwok Leung Memorial Dissertation Fund Grant
It’s the 2nd year to invite proposals for the fund grant. The Call for Proposals was announced in March 2017. By the submission deadline of May 10, 2017, 15 valid proposals had been received from 13 universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Nankai University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Among them, 8 students are from overseas universities like the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytech University, Purdue University, Georgia State University and Boston University.
The following 5 proposals (listed in alphabetical order of the authors’ last name) received highest review comments and have won the 2017 grant of the Kwok Leung Memorial Dissertation Fund.
