Introduction
Literature reviews play an important role in the advancement of knowledge within business and management research. Reviews allow scholars to take stock of research within a domain, and at the same time, set out new directions for the future. Drawing on over 10 years of editorial experience with the International Journal of Management Reviews (IJMR), Dermot Breslin will outline strategies authors can use when theorizing through literature reviews. He presents these strategies in terms of the different approaches taken by researchers, from focused and disciplined miners to more adventurous and innovative prospectors. Dermot will further explore the pathways between miners and prospectors including the choices they made, risks borne and benefits gained. IJMR is a theory-driven literature review journal, jointly owned by the British Academy of Management and Wiley Publishing, and has a 2-year impact factor of 13.42. This puts IJMR 2nd out of 153 Business journals, and 3rd out of 226 Management journals. IJMR is therefore at the forefront of theory development through literature reviews.
