School of Economics and Management (SEM) of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) was developed from Department of Engineering Economics, which was one of the three earliest departments when the university was founded in 1955. Over more than sixty years,with strong background in information and communications, SEM has built multi-level disciplines and majors with distinctive academic features. 

The school currently has 1 first-level discipline doctoral program and 1 postdoctoral research station: Management Science and Engineering; 4 first-level discipline master programs: Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Applied Economics, and Public Administration; 5 master programs of professional degree: Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Engineering Management (MEM), Master of International Business (MIB), Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc), Master of Public Administration (MPA); 4 undergraduate programs：Big Data Management and Application, Financial Technology, Business Administration(intelligentization and innovation management), Public Affairs Administration(smart city and computational social science), and 1 Global EMBA program cooperated with Emlyon Business School.

In recent years, the school has been approved dozens of projects funded by national-level foundation, including 4 Major Programs from National Social Science Foundation of China; hundreds of research projects funded by provincial and ministry-level foundations and international cooperative plans, and over 1000 projects from enterprises and institutions. The School has gathered outstanding faculties since the establishment. SEM now has 32 professors and 27 doctoral supervisors. Among them,there are 2 leading talents of “Ten Thousand Talents Program” , 2 National Cultural Masters and “Four a batch of”Talents, 1 academician of World Academy of Productivity Science, 5 Special Allowance Experts of the State Council, 5 New Century Excellent Talents of Ministry of Education,2  Beijing-renown teachers, and 10 renown teachers of the university. 

SEM always regards the quality of student cultivation as foundation of the school, and actively promotes the reform of undergraduate education and teaching and the innovation of postgraduate cultivation mechanism.Graduates of the school, with good professional quality, solid theoretical foundation and practical work attitude, are favored by the society. They have been employed by Internet companies such as Tencent and Alibaba, communications companies such as Huawei and ZTE, telecommunications companies such as China Mobile and China Unicom, banks and diversified financial institutions, government and public institutions, etc. SEM has cultivated a large number of high-level professionals for the country and is known as “the cradle of the new generation of ICT management elites”.

As the development of digital economy has been elevated to a national strategy, SEM integrates multiple forces to carry out organized scientific research. The school releases guidance framework for digital economy research and implementation plan for related interdisciplinary integration. Six featured research teams have emerged and a series of important achievements,including the approved major and key projects, have been made in specialized research directions. SEM has built the brand and gained reputation for scientific research.
