Anne Tsui Received AOM Distinguished Service Award

Prof. Anne Tsui, Founding President of IACMR, received another major award recently. She was presented the Distinguished Service Award during the Presidential Address and Career Awards session at the 75th AOM annual meeting in Vancouver on Aug. 9.

Each year, AOM recognizes four outstanding individuals, who have made significant contributions to the field of management through their service, research, innovative teaching methods, breakthrough developments, and more over the course of their career. Anne was given this career achievement award mostly due to her service to the AOM as AMJ editor and President, and also for founding IACMR. In her nomination letter, Prof. Xiaoping Chen has very well outlined Anne’s achievements as below.

“Over her 35 years of career as a management scholar, Anne has devoted herself to serve the management community. Within AOM, she served as the Editor-in-Chief for Academy of Management Journal (AMJ) (1996-1999), and as an officer leading to the Presidency of AOM (2008-2013). Outside AOM, she was the founding President of International Association for Chinese Management Research (IACMR), and founding Editor of its journal Management and Organization Review (MOR). In addition, she was also the founding Department Chair of Management of Organization at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and the founding Director for its Hang Lung Center for Organizational Studies.”

The 2015 AOM Career Achievement Awards Committee was convinced that Anne has made significant contributions in the following areas:

• Enhancing a field of study: by initiating the research methods workshop in 1999 and nurturing many young management scholars; by advocating indigenous Chinese management research and establishing and enhancing its legitimacy in the mainstream management research;

• Founding or creatively editing a scholarly journal: by founding MOR and establishing its position among top 30 management journal in the world;

• Unusually effective service to a major professional institution: by founding IACMR and leading it to grow into a well-respected and admired association with 8000 members in more than 90 countries and regions.

Anne won the award not only because she founded and served in the important positions, but more because she served with her heart and soul. Warm congratulations to Anne!
